DC48 Power Supplies

The fibrepoint® system operates according to the DC48 Standard which provides for the network to run both optical data and power over the same cable. The distribution voltage is 48V DC but the customer’s power needs will change according to their system requirements so we provide a range of 48V DC power supplies that can be upgraded to provide increased power.

The DC48 power supply not only powers the network, but can be used to provide power for peripheral devices attached to the WallPorts RJ50 (RJ45 Compatible) connectors. Devices such as IPTV Set-top boxes, IP Phones, alarm systems, Baby monitors, are all ideal for this type of connection and therefore doing away with the requirement for individual power supplies for each device and the need for a local mains outlet.

The PDX also includes up to two of these RJ50 Connectors which can be used to provide 48V DC to network devices within the Home Hub that require power such as a fibre-to-the-home service provider’s ONT/ONU.

In conjunction with the DC48 protocol, the fibrepoint® system gives you the option to draw power from both the electrical mains power grid via the DC48 Power Supply or from renewable, off-grid electrical systems such as PV or wind turbine generators.

The power distribution system can be configured that, in the event of a power failure, a battery backup system will provide power to two emergency ports to keep crucial system operating such as VOIP phones for emergency use.

The 20 Watt, DC48 Power Supply is the most basic, entry level power supply, capable of powering one 8-Port PDX and a maximum of 5 WallPorts. It does NOT have the capacity to supply additional power via the RJ50 sockets.

The 100 Watt, DC48 Power Supply is the next option and is capable of powering two 8-Port PDX and a maximum of 14 WallPorts. It can also provide some capacity to supply additional power via the RJ50 sockets.

Larger Power Supplies can be specified dependent on your network configuration and potential peripheral configuration.
